How a real F1 start works

At a Formula 1 start, five red lights illuminate one at a time. The signal to go is the moment all of them go out. The gap between all-on and lights-out is deliberately randomized by the race director at every real start โ€” and in this test too.

React before lights-out and it's a jump start โ€” a penalty in the real thing, a retry here.

How fast are real F1 drivers?

Measured driver reactions at the start are commonly cited at roughly 0.2 seconds (200ms range). Given the human visual floor of about 150ms, that's about as sharp as it gets. If your 5-run average beats 260ms, you have genuine pace.
